POLICE ACTION IN VIGO – NUISANCE BIKES & ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

Vigo Parish Council has been aware of ongoing issues involving nuisance bikes, off-road motorbikes and e-bikes in and around the village.

We raised these concerns directly with Kent Police and asked for a greater police presence in Vigo. Officers attended over the weekend and the results from just one day of policing in Vigo and the surrounding roads were significant.

During the day, police:

• Seized two nuisance/untaxed vehicles, including a high-powered off-road motorbike and an e-bike.
• Issued both riders with on-the-spot £100 fines for breaches of the Public Spaces Protection Order.
• Dealt with other traffic offences, including speeding and mobile phone use.
• Dealt with illegal waste carriers suspected of fly-tipping offences.
• Issued 15 traffic tickets in total.
• Took action in relation to anti-social behaviour and drug offences.

We were surprised by the number and range of issues identified during just one day, but very pleased to see such a strong response.

Following this, we understand that residents should start to see more of a police presence in Vigo, with officers continuing to tackle these issues moving forward.

Kent Police have specifically asked residents to continue reporting any sightings or issues involving nuisance off-road vehicles.

Please do report incidents when you see them. Police have made it clear that they will take these issues seriously and tackle them robustly.

INFORMATION ABOUT NUISANCE VEHICLES

Kent Police have also asked residents to pass on any information they may have about individuals believed to be storing or using illegal off-road vehicles.

Police have advised us that they have powers, in certain circumstances, which may enable them to seize vehicles from private property where those vehicles are known to have been involved in nuisance or other offences. Any decision to use those powers, and the circumstances in which they apply, is a matter for the police.
